Boron is a commonly existing element in the earth, in soil, rocks and water. Boron content of soil is approximately 10-20 ppm however higher concentrations of boron is found in the west region of U.S. and the regions extending from Mediterranean to Kazakhstan. Boron amount ranges from 0.5-9.6 ppm for sea water and 0.01-1.5 ppm for fresh water.

Boron reserves having high concentration and economical extent are found mostly in Turkey and in arid, volcanic and high hydrothermal activity regions of U.S. as compounds of boron attached to oxygen.

The occurrence of boron mineral reserves in the world is mainly in three zones:

The first region is in the Mojave Desert in South Western USA. This region is the one at which one of the worlds biggest boron producer US Borax is operating the reserves.

The second region is the South-Central Asia Alpine Zone including Turkey. Boron reserves in this region extend from China to Kazakhstan, northeast Russia, Turkey - especially in the inner Aegean and Marmara regions the largest boron reserves exist in the form of different salts- old Yugoslavia and Serbia. From this region onwards the boron reserves ends.

The third one is South America Andean Zone reserve.

The largest boron reserves in the world are located in Emet, Kırka, Bigadiç regions of Turkey and in California, USA.
