    Competence Centres

    Competence Centre: These are the centres built locally within various institutions under BOREN's administrative and strategic supervision with a view to aligning current and evolving technological infrastructure, competence and know-how in our country to BOREN's requirements, commercializing boron products through product development campaigns, and ensuring the penetration and sustainable use of these products.

     1.       BOREN Competence Centre for Boron Coating

    BOREN Competence Centre for Boren Coating has been built within the Atılım University's Metal Forming Centre of Excellence, Application and Research under the cooperation between BOREN-Atılım University with a view to developing boron coating technologies for metal forming industry and other industries, ensuring the sustainability of know-how and technology across the infrastructure to be built for this purpose, and fostering the cooperation between the parties.  Besides a coating process device, the centre is further equipped with 1 AFM, 1 micro-hardness device, , 1 scratch tester, one nano-hardness device and one dynamometer. As the devices at the centre are employed within the scope of current projects, they may be assigned to research campaigns of third parties upon request subject to the decision of the Executive Board. Through the project currently supported by our Institute at the centre titled "Developing Cubic Boron Nitride (c-BN) Coating Technologies for Cutting Tools and Moulds", coating processes for the TUBITAK-supported project "Surface Characteristics of Titanium Implants Coated with Boron Nitride" and Atılım University-supported "Surveying Antibacterial Features of Boron Coatings" are run. Furthermore, coating demands from other companies are also met.       

    2.       BOREN Competence Centre for Wood and Composite Applications

    The centre has been built by virtue of the protocol between our Institute and the Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University for the purposes of developing production technologies driven by sector involvement for applying boron and derivatives to the wood and wood composite materials industry, ensuring the sustainability of know-how and technology on the infrastructure to be built in this respect, and enhancing the cooperation between the parties. The competence centre runs three major projects, namely "Deriving from Thermosetting and Thermoplastic Industry Wastes and Characterizing Boron-Doped Fireproof New-Generation Composite Materials", "Developing and Characterizing Boron-Doped Fireproof Wood Composite Materials", and "Deriving from Lignocellulosic Wastes and Characterizing Boron-Doped Polyurethane-Type Foams". 

    3.       BOREN Competence Centre for Biological and Biotechnological Applications

    The BOREN Competence Centre for Biological and Biotechnological Applications has been built within the Yeditepe University's Department of Genetics and Bioengineering by virtue of the protocol between our Institute and the Yeditepe University for the purposes of developing production technologies driven by sector involvement for exploring the impacts of boron on human and environmental health and use of boron and its derivatives in biotechnological applications, ensuring the sustainability of know-how and technology on the infrastructure to be built in this respect, and enhancing the cooperation between the parties. The Competence Centre currently runs 2 major projects, namely "Producing Antimicrobial Construction Materials with Boron Derivatives" and "Developing Sanitary Pads, Packs and Diapers with Mineral Boron Compounds".   

    4.       BOREN TUBITAK-MAM Competence Centre for Boron and Hydrogen Technologies

     The centre has been built by virtue of the protocol signed between BOREN and TUBITAK-MM with a view to developing boron- and hydrogen-based product and production technologies for energy applications in line with BOREN's approach and objectives, and cooperating in R&D actions oriented in building up the know-how, experience and system for the field application of the technology. Preparatory actions for the centralized implementation of the project are underway.

     

    5.        BOREN R&D Centre (Competence Centre)

    The R&D Centre has been built locally within the Institute to run pilot-scale campaigns on particular topics with preliminary groundwork. At the centre, currently the project "Boron Isotope Enrichment with Continuous Annular Chromatography Technology" is run under the leadership of a consultant and service of 3 employees, 2 of which are permanent.  At the R&D Centre, also the decision to run the project "Advance Metallic Alloys Enabled by Boron Content" has been made followed by the efforts for building up the project infrastructure which are in progress.   

    6.       BOREN Competence Centre for Boron-Doped Material Applications

    By virtue of the cooperation protocol signed between our Institute and the Istanbul Technical University on 30.07.2013, the "Boren Competence Centre for Boron-Doped Material Applications" has been built upon the current laboratory infrastructure of the University. The Competence Centre is aimed at building a cooperation in the fields of developing products and product technologies capable of imparting a competitive edge to the material applications of boron and boron products through sectoral involvement in alignment with BOREN's approach and objectives, and building up the know-how, experience and system necessary for the field application of the technology so developed.
